Growing up in the country, I believe everyone should enjoy a hearty meal every once in a while. I recently visited Hash House a go go on International Drive to try their ‘twisted farm foods’ and large platters. I’ve heard so many great things about this country themed restaurant from my mom who tried it while in Vegas. After my visit, I will attest to the great things she told me.
As I walked into Hash House, a big red tractor welcomed me. I felt like I was back in Ohio again. As I looked to the left, several photos of celebrities were displayed on the wall. Every one of them had eaten at one of their few locations and have recommended them, including Adam Richman from Man vs. Food.
As I took my seat the server was very nice and asked if I would like anything to drink. I decided to order water and one of their famous mimosas. As I looked over the menu, everything looked so good. They had a breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner menu. However, one item on the menu instantly caught my attention.
Andy’s Sage Fried Chicken was a meal that Adam Richman featured on his show Man vs. Food. Knowing my love for this show, I had to try it. When the server came back with my mimosa I gave her my order. She gave me a smile, took my order and walked away. I’m sure she was wondering what I was thinking. Petite woman. Man vs. Food Challenge.
As I sipped my mimosa, the orange juice flavor was faint and the taste of sparkling wine took over. About 15-20 minutes later I was presented with Andy’s Sage Fried Chicken. WOW.
The plate consisted of two freshly split biscuits with mashed potatoes on top. Then, they piled on a large piece of fried chicken, smoked bacon, spinach leaves, fresh tomatoes, pan seared mozzarella, scrambled eggs and a spicy chipotle cream sauce. I’m a sucker for spicy foods and this dish certainly fulfilled what I was looking for. Also, if you’re not a spicy food vixen they give you a slice of cool watermelon to refresh your palate.
The taste of chipotle sauce gave my tongue a great sensation of pleasure. However, the smooth texture of the mashed potatoes and the crunch of fried chicken together made me smile. I know some people are so picky when it comes to their foods being separated. I’m not like this at all. To me, food is food. Pile it up and let’s eat.
After about 20 minutes, I finished nearly half of this gigantic plate. The server came back and was very impressed with how I did. I have to say, my server was very supportive throughout my attempt of eating this monster.
If you’re looking for a place that’s reasonably priced, has great service and has unique foods I truly applaud this restaurant. I’ll definitely be going back to try the bigger than your plate pancakes.
